Project Semicolon is coming as Tilbury Arts Council will be hosting a fundraiser June 17 at Tilbury Arts Centre from 10-2, all proceeds will benefit mental health programs offered at Tilbury HELP Centre. For $30 donors will receive a small semicolon tattoo, most choose to have them placed on inside of wrist or upper arm, to show their support for mental health initiatives such as suicide prevention and over all mental health issue awareness.

Project Semicolon became prominent in early 2015 when people started uploading photos of their own semicolon tattoos through social media to support the movement, gaining attention from a variety of mainstream news outlets. Why a semicolon? Simply put a semicolon is used when an author could've chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. In this case the author is you and the sentence is your life.

Founded in the United States as an mental health nonprofit organization, Project semicolon primarily functions as an anti-suicide initiative whose movement is aimed to "presenting hope and love to those who are struggling with depression, suicide, addiction, and self-injury" . The tattoo of the punctuation mark semicolon is a form of solidarity between people dealing with mental illness or death of someone from suicide.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to Tilbury Information & Help Centre in support of their Mental Health programs ensuring 100% of proceeds benefit those in need in Tilbury.
